Tips For Buying Authentic Silver Jewelry

By , November 5, 2009 7:32 am

Silver is probably one of the most liked materials for jewelry. This could be due to the fact that it’s the so-called middle ground between cheap and classy. It is not so flamboyant as gold, and yet it’s not so shabby as bronze. There’s something nice about silver that makes it a great choice of material for jewelry that people can wear everyday. However, when buying silver jewelry, you must have a bit of know-how about its qualities. This is so you do not get tricked about the quality of the jewelry you will buy.

Stamp of Authenticity

In accordance with the law, silver will have to be marked with either 925 or “sterling”. Basically, this says that the piece of jewelry you are buying is made of 92.5% silver, the other term for which is “sterling silver”. If you’re purchasing a necklace, then you should look at the clasp for this stamp. The same principle holds for pieces of jewelry with silver chains. If you’re purchasing a ring or a bracelet, search for the stamp on the interior of the piece of jewelry.

The Acid Test

Since there are so many cheap imitations that have flooded the market, then you must be careful that you don’t get duped. A cautious move would be to require a nitric test before you buy the piece of silver jewelry.

You can simply do this yourself. But to be safe, let your local jeweler do the test for you. To put it simply, certain areas of the piece are rubbed vigorously. Then a few drops of nitric acid are dropped on the area. For caution’s sake, pick a part that is hidden. If the acid turns green, then it is a fraud and is only silver plated. If the liquid turns gray, then it is authentic.

Purchase only from a Trustworthy Seller

To be completely safe, however, just purchase your silver jewelry from a reputable source. Forget about bargains. Jewelry, true and good, are bound to be pricey. Don’t fall for the fishy deals where people who come to you randomly have what they say is an exceptionally valuable piece that is on sale and affordable only for a short period of time. Just buy from a reputable source and save yourself the effort of finding out if you are getting your money’s worth.

Feel like you know your way around jewelry? If not, then you should visit the homepage of Smykker to read all you need to know.

Review: Sanyo HEC SA5000 Massage Chair Recliner

By , October 23, 2009 3:48 am

We present review of the Sanyo model HEC SA5000 massage chair. Our intention is to provide a massage chair buyer with an objective review and evaluation of a given massage chair. We use a 5 category system. Equal weight is given to each category. Each category can earn from 0 to 20 points. The points are then summed up to provide you with an overall score. The 5 categories cover the following: Warranty & Customer Service, Comfort/Ergonomics, Ease of Use, Features and Massage Therapy. This system gives us a disciplined process of evaluating a massage chair. We hope you find this helping in your search for the best massage chair for your needs. The Sanyo HEC-SA5000 massage chair recliner price is in the $3,000 to $4,000 range.

Warranty & Customer Service: The warranty coverage helps to reduce your risk in any electronics purchase. This gives you protection of defects from manufacturing of the product. The SA 5000 comes with the following warranty coverage: 1 year parts, 3 years roller mechanism, 1 year labor and 1 year in home technician service. We think the 1 year in home technician service is a good addition for Sanyo. We would like to see all parts covered for 3 years like the top manufacturers do. The customer service is good. Sanyo has a 24/7 call center which is technically competent. The SA-5000 earns a 15 in this category.

Comfort & Ergonomics: The SA-5000 comes with a well padded back pad on the chair back. The head support cushion is contoured and adjustable. he armrests have sufficient padding. The leg ottoman cannot be extended which may be a concern for taller users. This massage recliner was originally designed in Japan for that market and later exported to the USA. The main remote has a simple layout with one touch buttons for automatic massages. There is also a wired remote, but it has limited functionality. We give the SA5000 a 15 for ergonomics.

Ease of Use: We are always concerned with how easy a massage chair is to use. There are an ever increasing number of features and options, but the manufacturers need to make it easy to use. Everyone wants the best technology has to offer, but not at the expense of a steep learning curve. We like the Sanyo remote for the SA 5000. This is a clean and simple design. There are 4 automatic programs with one-touch buttons. If you like the massage you are getting and the area, then hit the Program Memory button and the chair will remember. This is like having additional automatic programs at your disposal. The side panel controls the lower body air system with individual controls for the lower body, calf, foot and thigh. Our rating in this category is 18.

Key Features: The SA-5000 comes with some unique technology from Sanyo. They include their GK roller systems for neck and shoulder massage. They also have a stiffness detection system integrated into the massage recliner. The GK roller system can reach out over the shoulders. It performs a grip massage that is effective to relieve tension and soreness in the shoulder and neck regions. The stiffness sensor is based on lie detector technology. It monitors your pulse and perspiration to determine areas of stiffness in the body. This is then fed into the computer which then directs the massage for those specific areas. The SA 5000 earns an 18 in this category.

Massage Therapy: The SA 5000 comes with automatic programs, 4 programs stored in the Memory Program, 4 manual massage techniques and 4 massage courses for the back. The automatic programs are Stiffness, Relax, Recovery and Fine. There are 5 adjustments for both the massage speeds and roller width adjustments. There is the Grip massage which effectively targets the neck and shoulders. For the lower body, this recliner comes with 24 airbags to provide relief for the feet, calves and thighs. There are specially designed airbags that provides a multi-point shiatsu massage. This provides a penetrating and soothing massage. We give the SA-5000 an 18 in this category.

How does the Sanyo SA-5000 stack up? We give this massage chair an 84/100 in our overall rating. There is some innovative technology contained in this mid range model. We are impressed with the GK roller system which is also in the high end Sanyo model.

This provides superior coverage of the neck and shoulder regions. The warranty coverage is a bit light on the parts side and you may want to consider an extended warranty. The memory program is another nice feature enabling the chair to memorize a particular massage and its settings for repeat use. If you are looking at a mid range massage chair, this one is definitely worth a serious look.

The Human Touch HT 1650 Massage Chair Recliner

By , August 6, 2009 7:07 pm

The human touch company makes a broad range of massage chairs. One of their high-end models is the HT 1650. Unlike most massage chairs, the HT 1650 looks more like a traditional recliner. It is quite a large chair and provides full body massage capability. We peel back the layers of the HT 1650 to reveal some of its more important features.

The HT 1650 comes with a functioning to detect your acupoints in your back. This is accomplished by performing a scan of your neck, shoulders and back. This function must be activated by selecting a manual massage function.

The HT 1650 will perform a scan when it is in the manual mode. A remote control comes with the HT 1650 where different functions are located. Once the body scan is activated, then it will send the rollers up menu down your back. Sensors are mounted on the rollers to identify your acupoints.

You may also use the acupoint detection system with other types of massage techniques. It is commonly used in techniques such as shiatsu or acupressure massage. One of the drawbacks of the HT 1650 is that you must set your shoulder height. Many high-end massage chairs perform this automatically.

There are 8 programmed massages in the HT 1650. All of these massage programs provide a whole body massage. There are some specialized programs such as sports therapy and other more general like warming up. Each massage is designed to perform a different therapeutic treatment.

Human touch has also equipped the HT 1650 with four manual massage functions. These manual massage functions perform kneading, compression, rolling and percussion. Select the type of massage based on your needs. Kneading is great for listening up of muscles.

Another feature of the HT 1650 by human touch is being able to target the massage in a particular area. There are manual massage courses which can be selected to provide aid massage in a given area. You can also pinpoint massage in one specific area as well.

In order to make the HT 1650 look like a traditional recliner, the calf massager needed to be hidden. Human touch has an innovative flip design for the calf massager. One side of the massager is flat. The other side of the massager contains leg wells. The cats can be inserted into the leg Wells when a massage for them is desired.

The nice thing about the flipping ottoman designed by human touch is that you can flip it when not in use. The leg rest hides very nicely underneath with this design. This enables you to better match the type of back or in your house.

The HT 1650 also comes with a remote control. This remote control has buttons on two faces of the remote. This enables the remote to be much thinner than other traditional controls. The remote is hardwired to the chair and has a pocket for storage.

You get a wide variety of massage treatments with the HT 1650. Although, I liked the look of the recliner, the massage therapy is not quite as effective as I would like. It seems that it is a little light for a high-end massage chair. This can be a concern as you will build up tolerance to the massage chair through time. You want to make sure that your long-term needs are met.

The HT 1650 massage chair comes with three years warranty on the parts. Human touch also provides you with 90 days of in-home technician service. This means that if you had a problem, a service technician would be dispatched to your home to conduct the repair. This is important as massage chairs typically weigh over 150 pounds.

We liked the bold design of the HT 1650 massage chair by human touch. It is nice to see that many of the massage technologies can be successfully hidden and to a traditional looking recliner. The main concern that we have with the HT 1650 massage chair is the strength of its massage therapy. It has a number of different programs, but most are fairly weak from our therapeutic point of view. However, there are many solid features and the HT 1650 massage chair.

Massage Chair Review for Panasonic EP1273TL Massage Recliner

By , July 30, 2009 3:47 pm

Panasonic has been making massage chairs for about 30 years. They have a full range of massage chairs at many different price points. We are going to review the EP1273 which is in the 2 to 3 thousand dollar price range. We make a comprehensive review by rating a massage chair in five important categories where it can get up to twenty points. The sum of the points then yields the chair’s overall rating out of 100 possible points. Here is our evaluation of the Panasonic EP 1273 massage chair recliner.

Warranty Coverage & Customer Service: We start with the dry subject of warranty coverage. It is less glamorous than going through the wonderful features on this massage chair, but nonetheless, it is important. Warranty coverage is like insurance. It protects you from disaster-just in case. With large ticket items, you want some protection for shelling out your hard earned money. Panasonic gives you rather light coverage on parts and labor which is covered for only 1 year. Other chairs in this range are longer from the factory. The best coverage which exceeds the norm is one year coverage for field service. Customer service is OK. Overall, we give the EP 1273 a 16 in warranty coverage.

Comfort & Ergonomics: We have this category because with the increasing number of features, some functions are not easily accessible or hard to reach. Also, we have tried massage chars that were simply not comfortable to sit after a few minutes. Panasonic has designed the EP 1273 to be comfortable to relax in. The materials are soft to the touch and it comes with a pillow to support your head. The remote control is laid out well and easy to understand. This model rates an 18 for this key area.

Ease of Use: As technology advances, we are seeing that more features are being added at incrementally lower costs. That is an excellent trend for consumers. On the other side of this is for manufacturers to keep the use of their equipment simple and easy to use. Luckily, Panasonic is an expert in this field. The EP 1273 is no exception. You can master the controls very quickly and easily. We give this massage chair an 18 for ease of use.

Key Features: The key features of the EP1273 are the dual use ottoman and the 8 manual massage techniques. This massage recliner has a dual-use air ottoman system. Use the air system to knead and relieve tightness in the calves. Raise the ottoman and place your feet on it for a soothing and relieving foot massage. The second use of the ottoman is the built in stretch function. Hit the button and the ottoman will at first rise up and then it will lower in 20 degree increments. This will stretch out the lower body and provide gentle relief to aching muscles. This recliner also has 8 manual massage techniques. The 8 techniques include: Shiatsu, Swedish, Hawaiian, tapping, rolling, kneading, compression and percussion. This is a great variety for a mid range massage chair. We give the EP-1273 an 18 for key features.

Massage Therapy: The EP1273 gives you a choice of four automatic programs. Select Shiatsu, Deep, Gentle and Refresh at the touch of a button for 15 minutes of relaxing massage therapy. You can also select from 3 manual courses covering the back. You have many choices of manual massages. An interesting feature in the EP 1273 is the back rollers. The back rollers have four firm rubber massage heads which make up the Swede-Atsu massage. The Swede-Atsu massage replicates the stroking with the palm of the hand and the pressing with the heel of the hand. You can also feel the mechanical thumbs apply firm pressure. The kneading massage is firm with the rubber massage heads feeling like strong pressure with the thumbs. You also get a thorough calf and foot massage with the leg ottoman of the EP-1273. We rate the massage therapy of the Panasonic EP-1273 an 18.

We rate the EP 1273 an 88/100 in our overall rating. The EP-1273 is packed with some great massage techniques. This full body massage chair provides the most massage techniques in its price category. You get a thorough arsenal of massage treatments. The stretch function is a great addition and provides an effective method to relieve tight muscles in the legs. The warranty on this model is less than we would like to see. If you are looking for a full body massage chair, the EP1273 certainly provides solid massage therapy compared to massage chairs in its class.
