Explore how the Chinese people decorate their homes and streets on the New Year with special art work and crafts.

The Chinese New Year is a very special day in the lunar calendar of this ancient community. One can see Chinese families beautifying their homes with many different Chinese New Year decorations prepared especially for the occasion. From the insides of people’s homes to the city streets China is glittering in color throughout this season.

Few of the New Year decorations seen are pretty flowers to platters of food and some other variety of decorations that arereserved for the festival. There are certain decorative items that have become souvenirs to mark this time of the year. The collection of decorating items is wide and colorful.

Plants and flowers are a very important component in New Year decorations in China. As it is the Chinese people are known to have a special attachment with nature. During this time of the year the houses of the locals are blooming with different flowers and plants that represent growth and prosperity for the coming year.

For decorating purposes, the most commonly used plants and flowers are the plum blossoms at such times. This is because, they just start to blossom during this season and they are arranged beautifully together with bamboo and pine springs. This symbolizes a special closeness between families and friends around this time.

The two significant values the plum blossoms are supposed to represent are reliability and perseverance. The compatibility factor is represented by the bamboo due to its flexible nature and the evergreen nature of pine is a traditional mark of longevity. Other flowers used also are azalea, water lily, narcissus, and peony.

Even particular kinds of fruits play an eminent role in the New Year decoration symbols and every household in China needs to have it. Oranges and tangerines are the first priority in the list and generally brought as presents by visiting friends. To maintain happiness and long relationship tangerines are usually intended to symbolize such emotions.

The best thing of the Chinese New Year is probably the candy tray. At least adolescents would agree to it. Especially designed trays are brought and cadies are placed on them during this time. This sweet indulgence is also known as the tray of togetherness and it is piled with various delicious candies.

Another tradition practiced with the candy tray is that whenever an adult picks up a candy, he places a red envelope that contains some type of a good luck charm in it for the members of the house on the tray. Candied melons are the most popular object on the tray accompanied by coconuts, lychee nut, cumquat and peanuts etc. which have their own meanings.

Most of the New Year decorations are centered around the particular animal symbol of the year. This has been a Chinese tradition for centuries now and still goes on even now.

How To Start Your Collection

By , September 25, 2010 5:55 am

So you’ve decided that you want to be a collector, but aren’t quite sure where to start? Collecting is not hard. There are a few things to consider. What hobbies do I enjoy? Do I have any friends or associates that are collectors? Has anyone in my past been a collector that could be passed down to me.

That is the way to start collecting if you can find something positive in the above questions. Be warned that this can be an addictive hobby, as once you start out in a field of collecting you find that it as wide open as can be with loads of opportunities so take the time to find something that stirs your passion; for me it was Collecting Frogs – a Fun Hobby for All Ages, but for each person it is going to be something different and unique.

People who like to collect things have some things that are used for any type of collection. These items include: newspaper ads reflecting auctions or trade shows, road shows, and collecting clubs and websites like www.myfrogcollection.com where people can get together to discuss their similar joys and bounties.

It is important to plan how often you can work on your collection with everything else you have to do. After you figure out your time, you need to figure out your budget. Another consideration a person needs to make is what is the reason for collection and whether it is something that you hope will make you money in the long run. If you wish to collect for profit, where you will be buying and selling your artifacts, you may want to invest a bit more in inventory, advertisement space and travel and bidding allotments for your treasures and you might what to stay away from things such as collectible frogs which probably have more sentimental value than cash value. If you are interested in collecting strictly for the pleasure, you can allot yourself a certain amount of money per month and vow never to go above that amount.

With a little effort a person can find resources for anything that they want to collect whether it be through stores or online or through clubs. Collectors tend to move in packs and in the same circles, so don’t be surprised if you see the same name popping up over and over again.

A person needs to make this fact work for them. If you have had success buying your treasure from a particular seller, you can return to the same place and know that your quality and happiness is guaranteed. When someone treats you in a negative way you can avoid them in the future and let others know that they may not be a reputable dealer to work with.

Because of the nature of the hobby, people place various values on similar objects and you never know how much someone will think something is worth. The value that someone places on a collectible is based on many different variables including how much it is demand, what other people have paid for it, and how much it means to the individual selling it. There are many fads that have popped up through the years and seem to disappear as quickly as they arose. While you could get something for a certain amount of money and watch it become worthless, something else you have could easily provide for your retirement.

There is no replacement for good research. Take the time to understand what you should pay for your collectibles and how much others will pay for what you have. Remember to have fun with your collection.

If you weren’t already familiar with them, the chances are that you’ll be hearing quite a bit more in the next few weeks as they are the latest toy craze to sweep the country. Pronounced as “Zoo Zoo Pets” they are fun and energetic battery powered hamsters that scoot around on wheels and fly around their hamster habitats that you can customize as your collection continues to grow in size.

As the shopping season draws nearer, many parents are finding that they are hearing an awful lot about the new electronic toy that is already next to impossible to find, called Zhu Zhu Pets hamsters. Seen by millions of children on the internet and television through it’s fun commercials, it quickly became one of the most talked about toys in the last few years. With kids trying to build up a collection of these interactive pets, they are flying off the shelves of toy stores more quickly than can be restocked.

With adorable names such as Chunk, Numnums, Patches, Pipsqueek and Mr Squiggles, the interactive pet hamsters are the first of their kind. With a technology that allows each hamster to have it’s own unique personality traits, Zhu-Zhu pets allow children to have a variety of experiences with each one. Mr. Squiggles is mischievous and always finding different ways to get into trouble, Chunk enjoys taking it easy, and is more laid-back than the others, Numnums is always hungry and looking for a snack to eat and Pipsqueek is energetic and is always on the move. Together they provide a great deal of entertainment and it’s so much fun to see them interact with one another. When you add in the playsets and accessories like the Zhu Zhu Pets Funhouse to your hamsters’ world you really enjoy the full benefit of their fun and entertaining nature.

The Zhu-Zhu pets feature the ability to operate in a couple of different manners, with an available Explore Mode and Loving Mode. The Explore Mode lets the hamsters remain active by constantly moving around, running in circles and bouncing off of one another. The Loving Mode allows your child to enjoy some quiet time with their pet as the hamsters will cuddle and chirp along as it is gently handled.

You should try and find whatever hamsters and playsets you think that your child might be interested in as early as possible (like now!) as they are in short supply both online and in retail stores.
