Hybrid Electric Engines.

By , October 5, 2011 10:21 pm

Have you ever wondered about hybrid cars? They certainly look stylish and modern, but what is it about them that makes them so different and so special? After all, most cars look the same these days, do they not? They are all designed by computer to be aerodynamic and aerodynamic is aerodynamic, so they all end up looking indistinguishable to anyone who is not an aficionado.

Well, the fact is that the difference between a hybrid car and a standard car lies under the bonnet. There are different types of hybrid vehicles as well, but the most widespread kind has a hybrid electric engine. Therefore, you could say that what makes hybrid cars special from most other, normal cars is their engine.

Or engines actually, because hybrid electric cars essentially have two engines. One, the internal combustion engine, runs on gasoline, LPG or diesel and the other, the electric motor, runs off electricity stored in an array of powerful batteries. On the other hand, ordinary cars only have an internal combustion engine. It is a good idea to investigate these two types of engine separately.

First of all the electric motor. Electrical energy is generated by several components on the car and stored in a large bank or array of heavy-duty batteries. The electricity is created by the turning of the internal combustion engine, just as with a standard car, when it is in use, but also by the wheels or / and the car’s braking system. Different models have different methods of creating this electricity, but they are all very hi-tech and very effective.

When the car’s internal computers decide that the car no longer needs the power of the internal combustion engine, it will turn it off and switch to the electric motor instead. The circumstances where this might happen are, for example, when you are driving slowly in inner-city traffic, when you are cruising at moderate speed on a flat motorway or when you are going down hill. This saves a considerable amount of fuel, which is clearly a great saving to you.

However, there are times when you need more power than the batteries can give you, for instance, when accelerating hard, when overtaking or when climbing a hill. At times such as these, the electric motor will close down and the combustion engine will take over and start supplying power to the accelerator and electricity to the batteries. When the need for extra power has ceased, the batteries will take over again.

These choices are all taken by the hybrid electric vehicle’s (HEV’s) on board computer system and you will not notice much other that a rush of power or a quietening of the propulsion system. This works very well in most scenarios, but some drivers of HEV’s would like to have a manual override for abnormal circumstances, such as an undulating terrain.

All in all, cars with hybrid electric engines work very well at reducing fuel bills but they are still too dear to be much more than a gimmicky toy and a salve to the conscience for the well-to-do.

Owen Jones, the writer of this piece writes on many subjects, but is currently concerned with hybrid electric engines. If you would like to know more or check out some great offers, please go to our website at New Hybrid Vehicles.

The French Open Championship

By , September 11, 2011 11:48 am

It is highly unlikely that people will not have heard of the French Open tennis championship, because it is a competition which is an annual topic of conversation. In French the name of the competition is ‘Les Internationaux de France de Roland Garros’ or ‘Tournoi de Roland Garros’. This tournament, which lasts for about a fortnight is held in Paris at the Roland Garros Stadium, from which it got its name.

The French Open is one of the most advertised and broadcast sports events in the whole world of sport and many VIP’s go to it. The attendees of the game are fanatics who await with baited breath every stroke, especially when there is a close struggle between the two players, doing their best to win. TV viewers actually get a feeling of being there live too.

The French Open tennis championship is the second on the annual schedule of the Grand Slam tournaments and its history goes back to the year of 1891 when it became an international competition. At that time it was named the ‘International Championship of Tennis of France’ or ‘Championat de France International de Tennis’ in French.

First of all, only players that were registered or licensed in France were allowed to participate in this competition, but things took a different turn in 1925, when the French open tennis tournament finally was accessible to foreign players. Until 1912, the court the players used was made of crushed red brick dust. Actually the crushed brick was formed into a sort of red clay that was spread over the ground, which, until then, would have been a green lawn.

The public’s enthusiasm for the French Open tennis tournament held at the Roland Garros stadium, dates back to a competition fought between the Philadelphia Four (Rene Lacoste, Jean Borotra, Henri Cochet and Jacques Brugnon) who won the Davis Cup in 1927. It was the trigger of the desire in the French to defend their cup in future competitions. This new tournament was designed to return home the cup and was held at a stadium named after the World War I ace Roland Garros. The name has stuck since then.

The term ‘open’ became has been used since 1968, when the tournament allowed both amateurs and professionals alike who wanted to test their skills at tennis. Since then, the French Open tennis tournament has also introduced some novel ideas in prizes.

Apart from the regular winners’ prizes, they also give prizes called ‘Prix Orange’ for the most correct and press-friendly player, ‘Prix Citron’ for the player with the strongest personality and ‘Prix Burgeon’ for the one the best new-comer of the tennis year.

How Hybrid Cars Can Reduce The Energy Crisis

By , September 3, 2011 2:16 pm

It has been said that not enough people are doing all they can do to fight against the energy crisis. Hybrid cars can help, but probably not enough people are driving them. Here are a few things related to the energy crisis and how hybrid cars can help.

The U.S. isn’t doing enough really. The United States uses more fossil fuels than any other country in the world. However, most people believe that all of our energy problems can be solved if we would only investigate further into the oil deposits in Alaska or if we exploited the recent oil discovery in the Gulf of Mexico more.

Hybrid cars can result in us not having to consume other sources of energy to keep the economy growing. Hybrid cars won’t cause Americans to use an excessive amount of fossil fuel. Rather, hybrid cars make Americans use less fossil fuel.

Energy consumers just accept increasing fuel prices. People used to be concerned that fuel prices are much higher now than they were years ago. Now, however, people just accept the higher prices. In the meantime, cars are getting bigger and bigger. Car manufacturers are making trucks and SUV’s, which consume more gas at the higher prices.

These cars use more petrol, but you wouldn’t believe just how many people will not give up their fuel-guzzling SUV. Hybrid vehicles do eventually cost their owners less to own than conventional cars do. So there is no need to be concerned about settling for being over-charged by the oil economy.

Soon there could be an end to the “cheap oil period”. Soon, we could all be in too deep, because not only will we have an fossil fuel crisis, but a peak oil crisis as well. During the peak oil crisis, there will be gas shortages and natural gas shortages too. The major countries will need to compete against each another for whatever oil remains.

Therefore, everyone may have some problems, and countries may have to compete for who gets oil and who does not. The peak gas crisis can be staved off, if more people just drove hybrid cars. Hybrid vehicles ensure that people are not always having to be searching for oil. Furthermore, there are advances being made in hybrid technology all the time.

The plug-in hybrid cars, for instance, might not need oil whatsoever one day. So, just in case we do have an energy crisis, Americans should really be using the meantime to get their heads together in order to find a solution to the oil crisis in America. Hybrid cars are the way to beat the energy crisis, and if countries still want to fight each other over petrol, at least America will know they attempted to slow the impending crisis by investing in hybrid vehicles.

So, there you have it then. The United States’ mass adoption of hybrid vehicles would ensure that Americans need less fuel. But Americans also have yet to gain from the large amount of money being made from the manufacture of hybrid cars. The majority of popular hybrid cars come from Japan. Therefore, Americans ought to bring that money back into the country by making hybrids at home and do something about the current energy crisis at the same time.

How To Choose Golf Shoes

By , August 25, 2011 1:05 pm

Your swing may change with time, your accuracy and distance will improve with practice and strength, and you will become deadly accurate with a putter in time, but you will always do these things while standing on your own two feet and they can get tired.

So, your feet need to be quite comfortable, don’t they! Have you ever got a blister whilst walking or running? It’s all you can think about and it ruins your enjoyment of the experience of what you are doing. Don’t let uncomfortable golf shoes ruin your game of golf too.

This is one time when you shouldn’t let your natural tendency to save money make the wrong decision for you. You will be wearing these shoes many times over a long period of time and they should be thought of as a good investment in your game of golf.

Comfortability, not expense, should be your main concern when you are purchasing any shoes, not only golf shoes. Your foot should not move at all at the heel when you walk, but your toes shouldn’t feel at all cramped. Be sure to have your shoes fitted professionally and walk around in them before you actually buy them.

Serious golf shoes should also be waterproof, so that your feet stay dry under damp conditions. Good socks are important too as they will take perspiration away from you feet, keeping your feet dry and comfortable.

All golf courses prohibit metal spikes on golf shoes in an effort to protect their vulnerable greens. Purchase shoes that allow you to change the rubber spikes easily, and while you’re doing that, purchase some extra spikes. You never know when you may lose one. You should also replace the spikes when they become worn.

You have many things to worry about while playing golf, but your feet shouldn’t be one of them. When it comes to golf shoes, quality counts.

If you are thinking about buying new golf shoes, or if you are just into your game of golf, please go to our website entitled Golfing Tips for Beginners. Unique version for reprint here: How To Choose Golf Shoes.

Tennis Fundamentals

By , August 24, 2011 8:54 am

I expect that this, my first dissertation on the fundamentals of tennis, will be found useful by both novices and experts alike in the tennis world. I am striving to arouse interest in the student of the game of tennis by a somewhat prolonged discussion of match play, which I trust will cast a new light on the game of tennis.

I will turn to the novice in my opening and write of certain matters which are second nature to the skilled player. The best tennis equipment is not a lot of good for the beginner even if he really is trying to succeed. However, one has to buy good quality; it is a saving in the end, as good quality material far outlasts poor quality gear.

It is important to always dress in tennis attire when playing tennis. The question of choosing a tennis racquet is a much more serious matter. I do not advocate forcing a certain make of racquet upon any player, since all the famous makes are excellent. However, it is on the weight, balance, and size of handle that the real value of a racquet frame depends, while good stringing is essential to obtain the best results.

After having acquired your racquet, make a firm resolve to buy only good tennis balls, as a regular bounce is a great aid to advancement, while a “dead” ball is of no use at all. If you really desire to advance at the game and progress rapidly, I strongly urge you to watch all the good tennis you can. Study the play of the leading players and try to copy their strokes. Read all the tennis instruction books you can find. They are a great assistance.

More tennis can be picked up off the court, in the study of theory, and in watching the top players in action, than can ever be learned in actual play. I do not advise miss opportunities to play tennis. Far from it. Play whenever possible, but strive when playing to put in practice the theories you have read or the strokes you have seen.

Never let yourself become discouraged by lack of progress. The trick of playing some stroke you have worked on over weeks unsuccessfully, will suddenly come to you when least expected. Good tennis players are the product of very hard work. Very few players are born geniuses at the game. Tennis is a game that pays you dividends all your life. A tennis racquet is a letter of introduction in any city.

The brotherhood of tennis is universal, for none but a good sportsman can succeed in the game for any lengthy period of time. Tennis provides relaxation, excitement, exercise, and pure enjoyment to the person who is tied hard and fast to his job until late in the afternoon.

The following is the order of development that produces the quickest and most lasting results: i. Concentration on the game. ii. Keep the eye on the ball. iii. Foot-work and weight-control. iv. Strokes. v. Court position. vi. Court generalship or match play. vii. Tennis psychology.

Concentration. Tennis is played primarily with the mind. The most perfect racquet technique invented will not suffice if the playing mind is wandering. There are many causes of a distracted mind in a tennis match. The main one is lack of interest in the game. No one should play tennis with any expectation of real success unless he cares enough about the game to be willing to do the practice necessary to learn the game correctly.

Jack it in right now if you are not willing to work very hard. The weather, conditions of play or the noises in the gallery usually bewilder even very experienced match-players playing in new surroundings. Complete and utter concentration on the game is the only cure for an erring mind, and the quicker that lesson is learned the quicker the improvement of the player.

The surest way to keep a game in mind is to play for every set, every game in the set, every point in the game and, finally, every shot in the point. A set is merely a collection of made and missed shots, and the man who misses the least is the final winner.
