Become a professional scuba diver
Scuba diving is swimming below surface using equipment called scuba. Scuba is short name for ‘self contained underwater breathing apparatus’. The use of Scuba has revolutionised underwater swimming. Scuba diving is used for both recreation and also for business.
The scuba diving equipment consists of a cylinder of compressed air, masks, breathing and buoyancy regulators, gauges and fins. These gadgets enable a diver to remain under water comfortably, for a longer time. One can master the use of these gadgets, by practising for a few days.
Scuba diver carries cylinder of compressed air on his back, while going under water. He will get continuous supply of air from the cylinder during his stay under water. This is a convenient method of air supply, than air supplied from surface through a tube.
Training for scuba diving can be given to persons of any age. Scuba diving is possible both in shallow waters and deep waters. Initially, training is imparted in shallow waters. As training progress they will be moved into deeper waters. People with sound health only, are allowed to undergo training.
Amateur and professional scuba divers are available anywhere in the world. The amateur divers take up diving for recreational purpose and engage themselves in exploration of underwater. Professional divers on the other hand, offer their services to the needy to make a living.
Professional scuba divers are engaged by commercial firms for various underwater jobs. The trained professionals are experts in construction and maintenance of underwater buildings and structures.
They are employed for making surveys and sketches, rescue operations, wreckage location and recovery of wreckages, welding works, oil exploration and many such other jobs.
The Military is also using professional divers for various underwater military operations, such as removal of mines, surveillance and searches. The scuba divers make a decent living.
There are specialised branches under scuba diving, like commercial diving, recreational diving, military diving and technical diving. A person is trained to spot fish, or corals under recreational diving. Night diving, fish identification, wreck diving, deep diving, photography and videography, are some of the other specialised courses available under recreational diving.
More advanced training is imparted to the scuba divers about diving to extreme depth, advanced cave driving and difficult wreck diving. These trainings fall under advanced technical diving.
Children are also allowed to undergo training in Scuba diving. Children can obtain two types of certificates. A 10 year old child will be awarded with Junior open diver certificate, whereas a 15 year old child is given Open diver certificate. Children are allowed to undergo training from the age of 8.
Changes in air pressure, decompression of air, oxygen toxicity, nitrogen narcosis are some of the causes, due to which, a scuba diver can get injured, or fall ill. So scuba divers are generally trained to meet such eventualities for safety reasons.
