A new Modelzone store is soon to be opening in Birmingham centre and although this doesn’t sound like a very special thing at all it does in fact has its uses certainly to the people that like collecting things like model kits.
Any of you that know your models well and are living in the UK will know for a fact that this means the store is going to be the largest in the UK which is fantastic news. Here is a brief summary of exactly what the new model shop from giants Modelzone is going to contain.
As a kid I have to say that I had no heard of Scalextric sets until of course one afternoon my uncle came round with a set and we started to build up a set from scratch with everything from working lights to corners weaving around the table, it looked like a scene from a Wallace & Gromit movie it was great.
If you are not sure what Scalextric is then it is basically just slot car racing which is of course racing small cars that are powered by grooves or “slots” within the track itself. Well when model kits first hit the mainstream market in the 60s it has to be said that they were mainly about getting together as a family and building whatever model you actually bought but things have changes a lot since then.
It would certainly seem that after a short time people really started to get a little bit bored with model kits because the same kinds of things were constantly being released and people just did not want to spend money on it, this is when the model companies started to see another potential and this potential changed model kits forever from this point.
