Jurlique Skin Care Products: A History of Going “Green”

By Les Scammell, September 4, 2009 4:54 pm

Jurlique was founded in 1985 in South Australia by chemist and a horticulturist Jurgen Klein and his wife Ulrike. Their mission was to generate sustainability within a farm system that would create a mutual benefit for all those involved. From the herbs and flowers they planted – calendula, lavender, chamomile, marshmallow, and rosemary – to the products that became Jurlique, their farm in South Australia became the model for creating beauty products infused with living energy from the earth. Their goal in all of their development is to be the global leader and innovator in biodynamic and organic skin care. The result is sharing with the world the benefits of organics and going “green.”

Jurgen Klein and his wife are pioneers in a new way of sustainable farming. Today, each harvest is still tended with the same care and detailed focus that began on a farm in South Australia over twenty years ago. They believe nature trumps chemistry every time. This belief has driven them to be an independent alternative skin care company for consumers who believe in a relationship between health, beauty, the earth, and all living things. They continue to lead the way forward with great passion.

As a beauty company, Jurlique is passionate about the potency and purity of every single one of their natural, plant-based products. They nurture their “biodynamical” grown plants and herbs with great care and integrity at their Australian farm. Jurlique is one of the first and only companies with products containing natural preservative systems, and they are working towards development of a natural emulsifying system. As well, they source the purest and most innovative ingredients from around the world. The resulting blends harness the living energy of plants and translate that energy into luxurious, vital products that foster timeless radiance and natural good health.

Jurlique Skin Care is a leader in the natural skin care market made from calendula, lavender, licorice, chamomile, marshmallow, rosemary and more. Jurlique Skin Care products are made from natural plants and botanicals that are taken from two biodynamic farms that cover over 150 acres and are owned by Jurlique. On these farms are grown over 35 varieties of plants and flowers. All plants are organic, and the farming methods are sustainable and biodynamic.

Jurlique Skin Care is well known among the lines of luxury skin care products. Founded by a chemist, and inspired by a philosopher, the Jurlique Skin Care Line is based on the principle of connecting people to nature’s life cycles. Based on this philosophy, the Jurlique Skin Care line of luxury beauty products is infused with living energy, and is one of the most decadent and luxurious lines on the market. Each of their products is developed with a specific “living energy blend” – a custom blend of their biodynamically and organically grown herbs and flowers, that when combined in their formulas, re-balances the skin, naturally with biodynamic beauty, completely unlike any other, that is Jurlique.

Since 1985, Jurlique has maintained the vision: “We hold ourselves to the strictest standards in the growing, developing, and sourcing of our ingredients. We seek to develop products with as many of the herbs and flowers grown on our farms as we possibly can. When that is not possible, we source from other biodynamic or organic farms. For those ingredients which do not yet exist in biodynamic or organic forms, we use all-natural or naturally-derived versions – and all of this with companies that practice fair trade.

Providing quality 100% organic skin care products, hand cream and natural cosmetics from well known brands such as Weleda, Jurlique, Dr. Hauschka and more.

Men’s Modern Hairstyles – The Best In Fashion Hairstyles For Men

By Les Scammell, September 1, 2009 3:59 am

Men can choose from many hairstyles. Aside from those that has been famous for some time, some hairstyles will work better for others, for the reason that people have different shape faces and lifestyle. Therefore, here are a few hairstyles that men can take into consideration.

The Buzz cut The buzz cut is really the most uncomplicated cut without a doubt; this cut is a simple selection that will definitely go well in making a man?s jaw line appear a lot stronger. In addition to that, you can hide the receding hairlines and even those unwanted bald spots..

A hairstyle that is best for men that have a round or oblong face, and will add up a classy, organized confident and in charge persona.

The Long and layered This is a hairstyle that has a messy but structured appearance, along with a heavy top-layered look, which makes it a hairstyle free of maintenance. The great beauty of the long and layered hairstyle is the assumed look that you have not put any effort with it.

This hairstyle will suit men that have square, oblong and rectangular faces. You can be the next Johnny Depp with this look, creative, down to earth and definitely trendy.

The Textured bed head A hairstyle that was trended by David Beckham, with that delicately tousled look, which had begun from a simple and clean man?s haircut. The sides and the back are shorter, while the left is longer at the top. A hairstyle that is in fact simple and stylish, all you need is pomade; add your careful flow and volume your hair to the top and you have it!

The square faced men have the blessing of wearing this hairstyle best. Trendy yet somehow refined, and even if it is, a hairstyle that is a bit rebellious but it still is classy.

The Curls The curls are a hairstyle that is being embraced for quite some time now, especially for men who naturally have curly hair. Before men who had curly hair did whatever they can to straighten out their hair, but now they have learned not to fight against their curls but instead to go along with it. There are long and disheveled cuts for those who have the bigger, looser curls, and for those who have short, they can try the one length tidy cut for tighter and smaller curls. You can apply some texture cream, pomade or mousse if you are ready to go. Any type of face shape can pull the curls hairstyle, but it will depend upon the size of your curls, and if it will be proportional to your facial features.

These days, there are a lot of hairstyles to choose from, and what is good about men?s hairstyles is that it will always evolve, and would be a revolution, so it is rather safe to expect that you can keep the hairstyle you have chosen for as long as you like.

The Top Rated Skin Lightening Cream on the Market

By les scammell, March 23, 2009 5:36 am

Skin lightening cream has traditionally been used by people who have certain skin ailments and conditions such as liver and sun spots, freckles, sun damage, acne marks, pigmentation issues and general skin problems. However in recent times they have been used by people with darker skin who wish to lighten their skin. As we live in a multicultural society, those darker skinned people increasingly choose to lighten their skin.

In the first variants of formulas of skin lightening creams a form of bleaching was used to try and rectify these skin ailments with the most notorious ingredient known as Hydroquinone. Hydroquinone is a skin bleaching agent that can often cause mild to severe side effects such as redness, skin irritation, and extreme sensitivity to the sun amongst users. It is still permitted in the US, although it’s use is banned in Europe and Asia.

I do not recommend using a skin lightening cream which has hydroquinone as an active ingredient, and if you do insist on using a product which contains this substance, you need to be careful that it does not contain more than two percent of hydroquinone. Studies have shown that excessive amounts of this substance in your skin lightening cream over a period of time can lead to thicker skin, as well as to blood-related disorders, and possibly cancer.

An additional recommendation we have is that when researching different types of skin lightening cream, do not buy a product which contains artificial fragrances or other smells or flavours. Whilst it may be aesthetically pleasant to have your skin smelling like roses, these fragrances may be potentially toxic and carcinogenic in their chemical make up.

Understanding the huge demand of such products has led many big beauty companies to develop their range of skin lightening creams, and these are made primarily with natural, environmentally friendly ingredients.

More recent formulas avoid the use of these types of skin bleaching agents and instead concentrate on naturally occurring elements which are extensively tested and sterilized for safety. However, as with all types of skin lightening creams that are used externally on the skin, each user is different and it is important to closely monitor any adverse reaction to topical use and discontinue usage if you do experience any adverse reaction.

Even if you use a natural skin lightening cream, it is still essential to avoid any overexposure to the sun. The role of melanin in skin is to protect the deep layer of the skin from UV damage that can cause malignant melanoma, a form of skin-cancer. So, as you are reducing melanin production, you are making yourself more vulnerable to UVB radiation. So use a zinc oxide sun-block with a protection factor of at least 20 when you are exposed to the sun. In addition, please be sure that the moisturizers that you use contain antioxidants. Antioxidants provide further protection against cancer.

In conclusion, our advice is to make sure that the skin lightening cream you are considering buying contains naturally occurring, clinically proven lightening agents (eg such as extrapone nutgrass). This natural substance has both tradition craft and modern medicine to back it up, and has been proven to reduce the production of the skin pigment melanin, which is the element which causes skin darkening. Moreover, do you research before buying the first product that you see advertised on the internet.

How to Shop Online Securely

By les scammell, March 14, 2009 11:46 pm

Online consumers spend billions of dollars each year, and as online shopping becomes more and more favored, the major reason why there are still some people who would rather not shop online is shopping security. Here are some guidelines, which you could use to make sure that your security, privacy and rights will be protected when shopping on the internet.

1. Make sure that you are aware of the currency exchange rate before purchasing any international merchandise.

2. Know the delivery cost and time frame before you even place your order. A lot of shopping websites make use of couriers in the delivery of goods. Also, overseas delivery could be expensive.

3. Before placing a bid on eBay, make sure that you will be checking the feedback of the buyers and sellers. Make this your standard as you go on eBay.

4. Always, always, always read the FAQs of the website carefully.

5. If the company or individual you are buying from asks for cash as payment, say no. Using your credit card for payments would be able to protect you from fraudulent transactions. This is because credit card companies are able to issue refunds if there would be any proven fraudulent activity on your account.

6. View the contact page of the buyer. Verify if their postal address is on there. If it is not, do not do business with them.

7. If you have questions, ask. Genuine sellers are helpful and there are even shopping websites that have customer feedback forms.

8. Read twice the company’s terms and conditions, as well as their privacy policy.

9. Try searching the company in Google or any search engine to know more about the company from comments and reviews from other consumers.

10. If you still feel unsure on shopping online, then you could probably try shopping the conventional way. You need not force yourself on something that you are uncertain of. However, do not shy away from online shopping altogether. Eventually, you would realize that it could provide a truly worthwhile experience.

By les scammell, March 10, 2009 6:52 am

It has always been told that diamonds are a girl’s best friend. Well, that might be valid, but for several girls their makeup is their best friend.

There are so many various types of cosmetics out there, but one has started to get more and more concern. Benefit is a kitschy and pleasant makeup line that provides to women of all ages.

Benefit was created by the Ford twins in 1976. Their goal with the makeup line was to make it fun and functional.

They began specializing in effective quick fixes for every day beauty dilemmas that brought with them a great sense of playfulness. Today the Benefit cosmetic line has grown to be sold in over twenty-five different countries across the globe.

Perhaps the product which Benefit is familiar for the most is their lip and cheek stain called “Benetint.” It was in fact developed back in 1977, and is still one of their highest sellers. Yet, it brings with it an insane story about how it was first created.

Basically, the Ford twins designed “Benetint” to be used by kinky dancers. The dancers used it to make their nipples look beautiful while they were presenting. The Ford twins had no purpose that it would be that brand that would shoot Benefit cosmetics into the realm of a global sense.

What scent drives you?

By les scammell, March 6, 2009 6:04 pm

It is amazing to me how there are so many different fragrances on the market today with there own distinct aroma. Each fragrance has its own appeal to the consumer that buys it whether it is a richer scent or a more modest scent with a sweet aroma.

Fragrances designers range from Brittany Spears, to Chanel, to Dora the Explorer and each appeal to an individual in its own way. What is that drives a person to purchase a specific fragrance?

Along with the large selection and variety of fragrances, the cost varies just as much. Everything from the very high end to the low end and it because of this I believe the selection is narrowed down a bit.

The range of prices are anywhere from $10-50$ per bottle for the average person and designers such as Ralph Lauren and Nautica can provide to Chanel and then to the extreme of a fragrance called the Imerial Majesty that costs around $215,000.

Now that the selection has been narrowed down by cost, what is the next factor? The smell itself and how it arouses an inviduals senses is the next factor. Although this may seem simple it is very complex and we still do not know why one scent smells good to one person and terrible to another.

Although there is no specific reason why people like what they like there does seem to be a few trends I find interesting. One of them is the cultural aspect. Like cultures tend to like the same scent. Another comparison trend is age. In each of these the aroma may be fruitier than another group or one is a little lighter aroma than another group.

As I read through many articles and researched trends and why we buy what we buy, I have concluded this; we like what we like.

The moral to this story is that with the massive selection on the market in all price ranges, the best thing to do to find the right scent for you is to try samples until you find one you like.

Cheetah Print Trends

By les scammell, March 4, 2009 5:54 am

Trends come and go in the world of fashion, and its sometimes hard to know what things have left or when theyll be back. Cheetah print has been a borderline fashion statement for a long time, absolutely loved by some and hated by others; but its growing in popularity, and moving into center stage. Added here or there, cheetah print promises to give spice to any look, but be careful ” add too much and your eyes wont be able to handle it!

One of the main things about the cheetah print is that it makes a bold and glaring statement. If overused, it borders on distasteful, but that shouldnt stop you from incorporating it into your wardrobe, accessories, or even home. Here are some basic suggestions if youre not too sure what to do with the cheetah print:

- Dont mix it with other animal print clothing, and be weary of having several prints in a room. Unless youre trying to give off a zoo vibe, youre better off keeping the animal print at a minimum.

- Newer cheetah prints come in different colors, and each color says a different thing. A bright pink is feminine and fun, a green is energetic, and the classic yellow or orange is (relatively) more toned down. The same as above goes for different colored-prints: dont mix them!

- Pair a sleek cheetah scarf and some cheetah heels with a black dress for a classy look, or even go with a full-cheetah gown with simple jewelry and accessories. Or, you can dress down a cheetah jacket with a t-shirt and jeans, and still look bold and stylish.

- If youre looking to match a cheetah print with certain colors but are afraid it wont work, consider getting a different colored print. Besides the classic orange and yellow based prints, you can find bright pink and purple cheetah patterns, among others. These can be incorporated into your wardrobe, or into a rooms dcor, as curtains, cushions, or a rug.

- Cheetah prints also grace the surfaces of bags, scarves, shoes and bangles. You can even find cheetah covered journals, or make your own. These accessories make a great accented addition if youre into the full-blown cheetah phenomenon.

Of course, you dont have to like the cheetah print all, and thats fine. Who knows ” it might even be on its way out of popular opinion by the time youre done reading this!

Dry Hair Care and Dry Hair Treatment

By les scammell, March 3, 2009 10:06 am

If you are to get the best possible results from your hair care routine, you need to choose the correct hair shampoo and conditioner for your hair type. We recognise hair that is in good condition. It shines, it is easy to manage – it just looks good. The appearance of the hair is the one feature of the body over which we can have direct control. You can change the length, shape, colour and style of your hair according to the age you wish to appear, and the economic and social status you want to claim. The style, length and condition of hair all play a part in how we perceive the people we meet.

Dry hair is hair that does not contain enough moisture. This is usually because the cuticle has become heavily weathered and porous, so that the cortex cannot retain water. It shows up more in long hair than in short, simply because the hair has been growing for longer and therefore has weathered more. It is more common in women than in men, because women are more likely to wear their hair long. The dryness may come to affect more of the hair if it is given repeated chemical treatments, particularly perming, and especially perming associated with bleaching/colouring.Your hair is dry if: * it looks dull * it feels dry or rough * it tangles easily * it is difficult to comb or brush * it has been treated chemically (permed, bleached or colored) * it is liable to split ends * it is dry and frizzy. If your hair matches any of these criteria, you should choose a shampoo and conditioner that are designed for dry hair.

Fight the harm of colouring, chemical treatments, environmental pollution and heat-styling by deep-conditioning your hair regularly. This will aid you in topping up lost moisture and preserving a shiny and strong appearance to your hair. Cleanse your hair on a regular basis, using good-quality products. Product: Moisturizing Shampoos and Conditioners – Excellent for very dry hair. Restores moisture missing due to blow-drying.

And more importantly – take into account conditioning your hair well. Use Leave-in Conditioners and Re-constructive detanglers. A leave-in conditioner will give you body and shine that is great for straight hair and taming the frizz. To prevent split ends have the ends cut on a regular basis. Use a qualified hairdresser.

Very little water can enter into or out of the cortex in a regular, undamaged hair shaft. This is because the cuticle enveloping the cortex is in one piece. But if your hair has been processed too frequently the cuticle scales might not return to their usual tightness and its defence is lost. Over-porous hair is dry, and you are likely to develop split ends. The damaged cuticle is brittle and deteriorates as time goes on. After washing your hair be gentle with the brushing, drying and combing.

Look for a bottle that says: Moisturizing or Replenishing. It is prepared to be kind to dry, damaged hair. These hair shampoos are heavier on the moisturizing constituents, sometimes leaving a very thin film of conditioners on the hair to help keep it silky and smooth. They work best on dry, frizzy, damaged hair.

Baldness and Hair Loss Advice

By les scammell, March 1, 2009 6:59 am

Talking about hair loss with your GP is an important first step. For millions of people world-wide, each day is a “bad hair” day due to the predicament of thinning hair or hair loss. There are a variety of treatments offered these days that make hair loss or thinning hair easier to live with. Distressing situations and heredity can be the reason for hair thinning and loss and can also be caused by hormonal fluctuations, excessive physical force or poor nutrition. Alopecia is a worry not only experienced by men but by an increasing number of women, it is the disproportionate and abnormal loss of strong hair. While these factors can concern both men and women, hair thinning and loss usually happens for:

Men The most well-known pattern of hair loss is a thinning crown or receding hair line. Due to the presence of a derivative or by-product of testosterone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT) hair loss happens. This hormone can contract the hair follicles and has a larger effect in the mid-anterior scalp and temples. Some categories of male hair loss are: Chronic Diffuse Alopecia – can happen because of nutritional, metabolic or endocrine matters. Acute diffuse alopecia – occurs from physical or psychological reasons such as hormones, nutritional shortages or medications. Androgenetic Alopecia – occurs because of genetic sensitivity to male hormones. This hardly ever affects women.

Women Most cases of hair thinning and loss are as a result of hormonal fluctuations, ie during pregnancy, childbirth or use of some methods of birth control. Women can also experience: Anagen effluvium – occurs due to chemotherapy. The matrix of the hair becomes damaged and, as a result, the hair shaft will narrow, eventually fracturing. Traction alopecia – caused by severe hairstyles, such as ponytails that are too tight, braiding, cornrows or the frequent use of extensions. These procedures pull at hair over a period of time but loss can be prevented if recognized and treated early.

You can minimize or even stop hair thinning or loss, if you identify the symptoms early enough, by using a variety of pharmacy or store treatments such as: a). A weekly use, leave-in scalp treatment made with essential oils – oils such as lavender and orange will relax and unblock hair follicles to promote growth, regulate oil production and maintain cell repair. b). Daily vitamin supplement – look for ones labelled especially for hair and/or nails and are fortified with Vitamin B3 (niacin), this protects the hair shaft, and antioxidants, to ward off damage from free radicals. c). Use a hair shampoo that has “energizing/revitalizing/fortifying/” on the label. This type of hair shampoo will feed and protect your existing hair whilst eliminating oils that can block the follicles and prevent re-growth. Allow approximately 6-8 weeks before expecting to see any firm results. Like any treatment, results can vary and may to need to be used on a prolonged basis.

Techniques to hide hair loss: Perhaps it is time to think of some techniques to hide your hair loss if you are unhappy with your thinning hair. Whether you are a man or a woman losing hair due to heredity, stress, medication or a medical condition you can use these tips to help you cope. Use a Hair Thickening Shampoo or Conditioner Use a hair thickening shampoo and/or conditioner meant to disguise loss by making the hair appear to be thicker. Brush your hair gently after shampooing and conditioning to stop losing more hair, and allow hair to dry completely before combing or brushing it.

Styling Techniques If your hair is not as thick as it once was, there are a number of hair styling methods and hair styling products that can be employed to keep your hair looking its best at any age. Try to avoid hair gels as they only matte your hair and highlight your hair loss. Instead use hair texturizing creams and lotions that give you volume and fullness. Another good option is to use a leave-in hair conditioner that can make your hair emerge more textured and fuller. For a fuller look try blow drying your hair – For hair that is getting thin on top, try blow drying after you have washed and conditioned, then comb your hair in front directly back. Use mousse or a light hair spray to maintain the style. The blow drying will stop your hair from matting together and looking thinner.

Add Extensions to your Hair Extensions are an easy way for women and men with long thick hair to hide the fact that they are losing some. Use a salon for getting natural human hair added to your hair. This can last for several weeks to several months.

Blow-drying your Hair Think about blow drying your hair if it is thinning on top to give it more texture and body and to give your head more coverage. Brush your hair into a quiff by brushing it from the forehead up. Preserve your hair style with a touch of hairspray. If your hair is thinning all over, this is a good and effective technique to make your hair look fuller. Get a Buzz Cut – Guys Actors, sports stars, and businessmen all employ the buzz cut as a method of hiding the fact that they are thinning on top. It is a trendy, popular style that is easy to keep up. Purchase a wet-dry electric razor to groom your scalp every day and to remove the hairs you have remaining for a fresh look. If you’re worried about losing your hair or if your hair is beginning to thin, pay a visit to your barber or stylist and ask for suggestions for a new hair style. There are plenty of hairstyles to choose from that will permit you to look your very best.

So go grab one of these combination formulated creams to hit two birds with one stone!

- Hydroxy Acids. These substances remove the dead and damaged top layer of your stretch mark to reveal the younger skin cells underneath.

- Products with Lactic Acids. Stronger than hydroxy acids use lactic acids with great caution. Start off with the lowest dose then check for any abnormal reactions. If none proceed with use.

- Mineral Crystals Used in Dermabrasion. Think of mineral crystals as performing a do-it-yourself microdermabrasion on your skin. Mineral crystals work similarly as hyrdoxy and lactic acids as the crystal granules scrape off the scarred skin cells from your stretch marks.
