Should You Buy A Refurbished Computer?

By , August 12, 2011 10:06 pm

Refurbished computers are those that have been restored to as new condition. They come from one of two sources, either as used lease computers, or as warranty failures. Either way, these computers are refurbished and thoroughly tested before being sold on to new owners. The question that is often asked is an honest one – can I trust one of these computers, or should I buy a brand new one?

From experience, refurbished computers are really no different to brand new computers, with two exceptions. The first exception is pretty attractive – they are cheap in comparison to a brand new computer. The second exception is a slight worry because it does reflect on reliability. Refurbished computers don’t always come with the same warranty periods as a brand new computer. However, as I mentioned, my experience has always been positive and I’ll always prefer a refurbished computer to a brand new one.

Technology That Simplifies The Retail Checkout Process

By , August 12, 2011 9:58 pm

Big supermarkets learned very quickly that computer technology not only made the checkout process faster and smoother, it also made the process of stock control and re-ordering much easier. While this technology has been driven by large supermarkets, that doesn’t mean the corner store has to stay behind. Today, barcode scanners come in a range of sizes, some small and portable and easily used by small corner store.

There are intermediate barcode scanners that can be permanently mounted on checkouts for those slightly larger retailers, and they can be very cost effective. Customers have now become accustomed to these devices and they tend to trust them more than the old fashioned cash registers. Those registers relied on the operating keying in the right prices – and we all make mistakes. Technology has simplified the checkout process – and even small one person stores can now use this technology.

Which Weight Loss Products Are Proven Winners?

By , January 13, 2011 11:26 am

Weight loss is on everyone’s mind after Christmas. We do seem to eat a lot during this period. For many of us, diet is not a simple process – in fact, statistics show that 80% of people on diets will not only fail, they will increase their weight within six months of stopping that diet.

The end result is that people are looking for diet alternatives. For some, surgery in the form of stomach banding is a serious consideration. For others, the less invasive insertion of a balloon into the stomach is an option. I don’t like the sound of either really.

A third alternative is the weight loss supplement industry. This is huge and it can be hard to determine which products are really effective, and which are really no more than gelatin, harmless but ineffective. The key is to find those that are willing to talk about the best weight loss pills and where to find them. Reading reviews makes life so much easier.

Australian Retailers Protest Against Online Discounters

By , January 13, 2011 11:20 am

Australian retailers are busy spending millions of dollars to run advertising campaigns complaining about online discounters. It seems Australian residents can buy products online for almost half the price of those sold in Australian retail stores. This includes paying the freight charge to have the goods shipped into Australia.

I think these retail giants should have a long hard look at themselves. They can buy in bulk making even larger discounts that Australian citizens. They can ship in bulk which again reduces the per unit freight costs. The real problem is that Australian retailers are taking advantage the exchange rates and are pocketing the savings rather than passing them on to consumers. They must be, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to pay for this multi-million dollar advertising campaign. They also shoot themselves in the foot when they have regular one or two day 40%-50% off sales. If they can discount by so much, why can’t they have reduced prices all year round?

Avoiding Weight Loss Rip Offs

It doesn’t matter where you are in the world, you are going to come across people who will very quickly rip you off. Weight loss is certainly one industry that is full of quacks and people ready to take your money and run. So how do you find weight loss pills that work?

It’s a good question. My advice is fairly simple – do your research. There are plenty of sites around that allow people to leave comments and reviews on various products including weight loss products. There are other sites that have taken the time to analyze these comments and reviews and who have then collated lists of the best products available. Certainly makes life easier.
