The Great Times Of Scalextric
As a kid I have to say that I had no heard of Scalextric sets until of course one afternoon my uncle came round with a set and we started to build up a set from scratch with everything from working lights to corners weaving around the table, it looked like a scene from a Wallace & Gromit movie it was great.
If you are not sure what Scalextric is then it is basically just slot car racing which is of course racing small cars that are powered by grooves or “slots” within the track itself. The user of the car will actually control the small model using just one button, squeezing hard for fast and soft for slow. Tracks are varied and although usually they come in sets it is possible to buy all of the parts separately and build a massive custom track up.
Scalextric is boring for a lot of people but usually you will find that they have gone out to buy the cheapest track out there, build it yourself, it works better. You can build up everything from bridges to other things and the more corners you have the harder it is to actually race across the various tracks you create. Once you go around a very tight corner as fast as you can that it is you are off the edge.
Many people also feel that Scalextric cars are a thing to mess around with when you are kids but when you think about it they are actually very hard to use properly.
Of course if these are not your thing why not look into something like RC cars or perhaps RC helicopters. They are very hard to use in the correct way to take this into consideration.
