The Ins And Outs Of Buying And Using A Baby Stroller

Do you have a new baby and you’re thinking of buying a stroller? A baby stroller is a great idea, and makes taking baby out a breeze.

Modern baby strollers are manufactured with convenience in mind. Especially for parents of multiple babies, convenience is very important. After all you don’t want to find that it takes you half an hour to get baby and his or her stroller in the car before you even leave home, then another half hour to get the stroller out of the car and set up, and baby strapped in and ready to go.

You need comfort for baby, and ease of use for the parents. And modern baby strollers provide both.

And you don’t want to pay the earth either. If you know where to find them you can buy strollers for extremely competitive prices. I’ve just been browsing some cheap triple strollers for around $200 brand new. That’s a top price for a triple stroller – if you know where to find them.

There are some great features to modern strollers. They should have adjustable seats so baby can sit or recline to sleep, adjustable foot rests for babies that have got older, and storage baskets for the shopping. And larger wheels for uneven ground.

But there are a few things you can remember when shopping for a baby stroller. Babies can injure themselves when in a stroller, one of the most common ways that this can happen is that the baby tries to stand up, or succeeds in standing up, in the stroller.

Many countries have stroller standards now that require certain features in a stroller before it can be sold. But here’s some good ideas for things you ought to find in a stroller before you buy.

Make sure that each seat has a good harness that restrains baby from standing up. The harness should have at least 5 points an easily adjustable straps. It should have brakes capable of holding the stroller still with one or more babies and luggage on a slope. Foot operated brakes are very useful and one lever should apply all brakes.

The front wheels should swivel if you need them to but should be capable of being locked.

And NEVER leave a baby unattended in a stroller, even in the harness. Don’t park the stroller without applying the brake, even on level ground, and if you’re taking it up stairs you should take the baby out. If you’re parking on a slope always park the stroller across the slope, not down it, and don’t attach a dog lead to the stroller as a dog (and the stroller, and baby) can take off when you’re not looking.
